The end is finally here

This was my least favorite of the scribes of Medeisia series.
The fourth book picks up right where the third left off, and I am on the edge of my seat waiting for the grand finale. Unfortunately, City in Ruins fell way below my expectations.
There are no surprises. The good stay good, the bad stay bad, no guessing, no edge of your seat intrigue. Our favorite cast of characters seemed to take a back seat as Stone went on an individual adventure, and I sorely missed the dragon, the wolf, and the rebels. They were present but affected nothing. Stone, who has been such a star before, stumbled along straight into answers instead of having to figure things out herself.(It was like taking a test but finding the answer key) The puzzle pieces fit together a little to perfectly, making it seem as if the author was eager to be finished and just wrapped up with a nice little bow. I wanted grit and dirt and heartache, but instead I simply felt detached from this addition to the series. Everything that happened, any major move a character made had little to no impact on the plot whatsoever. This left me extremely disappointed.
I will say, I did still enjoy this book. I have loved Stone from the start and was completely entranced with Medeisia and am sorry to see it go. I enjoyed the ending the author provided, it was the perfect ending for this beautifully imperfect story. While I cannot say this book was my favorite I would highly recommend this series for anyone who isn't afraid of gods, men, and dragons.

Wonderful Ending to the Series

City in Ruins by RK Ryals is the 4th book in the Scribes of Medeisia series. This series is an epic fantasy series filled with magic and dragons, evil kings and rebels, and friendship and love. I definitely recommend that you read the entire series, starting with book 1 - Mark of the Mage.
City in Ruins drew me back into the world of Medeisia and brought old friends back to me. Ms. Ryals is able to create such an amazing fantasy world with her words - she shows the readers Medeisia and makes it feel real. And the characters in this series are so realistic and relevant. Each character has flaws and strengths...no one is perfect.
I don't want to say a lot about the plot because the storylines of all 4 books are woven together so well and I don't want to give spoilers to anyone thinking about reading the series. But I will say that the plot is interesting and intense and the story has so many twists and turns. And the ending was perfect - it wasn't a happily ever after ending but it hints at the possibility of a happy ending for Stone and her friends. It gives the reader satisfaction but still allows you to think about the characters and wonder if it all really goes the way you want it to.
I highly recommend this book. I loved it!!

Absolutely brilliant entertainment, and a stunning conclusion

Oh God this story. I've been waiting for this story for what feels like forever. These characters are real, they're my friends. When they hurt, I FEEL it. They happiness, sorrow, pain..it's all consuming.

Book one pulls you in. Book 2 destroys you, repeatedly, into a million microscopic pieces. Book three is like bone regenerating... it gives you hope that you're able to piece all of those little pieces back together and end up being stronger in the process. But the problem is, while you rebuild, the feels just keep coming and you keep crumbling equally as often as you rebuild.

Then book 4. Oh dear lord this book. You want the impossible to happen, knowing it can't but hoping it will. It's an adventure unlike any other and it's all consuming. And boy was it worth the ride!!

BRAVO!!

It was very easy to read

Required text for school. It was very easy to read, and I'm glad I ordered it, even though I could used the online book, it was interesting enough that I thought I could use it for school and work. Great book.

About the Author
John W. Seavey, MPH, PhD, is Professor Emeritus and past Everett B. Sackett Professor at the University of New Hampshire, USA, Department of Health Management and Policy, College of Health and Human Services. Dr. Seavey's 30 years of teaching health policy and health policy analysis courses in undergraduate and MPH programs as well as the capstone course in MPH programs brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this publication. He has been the recipient of the College of Health and Human Services Teaching Award (1986), UNH Outstanding Associate Professor Award (1991), UNH Bill Kidder Faculty Award (1999), College of Health and Human Services Distinguished Career Research Award (2003), UNH Faculty Social Justice Award (2005), and Distinguished UNH Professor (2005). Dr. Seavey has published two books, written numerous scholarly articles, book reviews, and policy reports. He is a former board member and Chair of the AUPHA. Semra A. Aytur, PhD, MPH, is Assistant Professor, Department of Health Management and Policy, University of New Hampshire, USA, where she teaches courses in health policy, social and behavioral health, and biostatistics. Her research interests focus on relationships between policy, environment, and systems change to promote healthy behaviors and prevent chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. She received a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation/Active Living Research Dissertation Award, among other research awards from the University of North Carolina and the University of New Hampshire. She has written one book chapter and amassed over 25 professional journal articles. Dr. Aytur has served on the Monitoring and Evaluation committee of The National Forum for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention, the Physical Activity Policy Research Network, and other national health policy groups. Robert J. McGrath, II, PhD, is the current Everett B. Sackett Professor, Chair and Director of Graduate Programs in the Department of Health Management and Policy, University of New Hampshire, USA. He is affiliated with AUPHA, APHA, New Hampshire Public Health Association, Academy Health, and is Founding Director for the New Hampshire Health Information Center (NHHIC). You can embrace your mission at any age!

I enjoy reading stories about the Saints. With so many Saint books to choose from, I always look for one that is unique. I look for authors who present the life of the Saint in a different way or one who writes in a way that affects me personally. Julie Onderko has accomplished both. The title alone captured my attention: Discover Your Next Mission From God. Julie has chosen some very exceptional Saints, some who the reader may have already heard about, but there are also others that might be unknown to the reader. The title of each chapter invites the reader to recognize the personal mission that connects each of us with the holies who have gone before us. At the end of each chapter is a reflection on how we can relate to what we just read. The last chapter is one of my favorites. The reflection ends “Lord what do you want me to do?” And we follow our Blessed Mother’s instructions: “Do whatever He tells you.” I highly recommend this book.

I highly recommend this book! It is applicable to people of all ages and from all backgrounds. Her excitement shines through the pages which makes for an enjoyable read. Also, her personal testimony, along with those of the saints, gives the reader proven tools to discover one's mission or calling. Be careful, it may change your life.

Couldn't put it down...Looking forward to Volume 2

It was as if Julie was in my living room telling me all about her friends. The writing is concise and informative. I couldn't put the book down. I was impressed to find out many interesting facts about Saints, which I was aware of, as well as the other Saints which Julie introduced. It was exciting to learn about the lives of these Holy Souls. The stories gives me hope that anyone of us can become a Saint. Each chapter guides us to search for God's Will for us, and the experience of the Saints gives us that courage. Great job Julie!

Low Fear, Easy Entry Into Couples Talk

I could certainly tell the John Gray influence. I thought the book would be good for couples where the guy wasn't quite interested in jumping into the relationship talk. Which would be about 90% of the guys I know. The book is easy to get into, short enough not to get boring or pissed off about working on the relationship. A couple could decide to do a topic a night or a topic a week and enjoy talking and laughing over a glass of wine.

Many guys, and probably gals too, need an easy, introductory way to get started. I think the book could be a low fear, easy entry point for many couples. "Useful Rules--even for Veteran Relationships!"

"My wife and I have been happily married for 34 years, successfully raised two sons to manhood, and survived two career changes (each). The other day, however, she had a tough day at work, wanted to talk about it, and I forgot Janice Hoffman's "Rule #2: "Listen without Interrupting." That made for a tough night. We didn't get to this point in our marriage without effort, however, so the next morning, we read Chapter #2 together, and then we talked about it. Thanks, Janice! Janice has created the perfect guide for happy, lasting relationships

If I had a copy of Relationship Rules by Janice Hoffman earlier in life it may have saved me a couple of divorces. The “Rules” are really just what works in developing a relationship and keeping it alive over the long term. Relationship Rules is an easy read, clean and to-the-point. I had the good fortune to interview Janice on my show.

Janice clearly knows about relationships and is entertaining and fun.

Brain Snacks a.k.a. "Mental Munchies"

In the interest of full disclosure, I must admit that I know Karl Albrecht. We met once a few years ago and we also attended a little gathering at a friend and colleague’s home. I have known of Karl Albrecht for many years, and I have always had the utmost professional respect for him and his work. Now, all that has changed. Now, I really like and admire him!!

Brain Snacks is one of the funniest and most interesting books I’ve come across in years. I had barely started reading it when I began laughing so hard that my wife gave me a disapproving look. I kept reading. One of the many things I like about Brain Snacks is that there is no plot to figure out; no story line to follow; no lengthy passages. You can pick it up, read a little bit and put it down – or, you can keep reading. You can jump around as your mood dictates and you won’t lose track of a thing. Quite simply, it is a book chock full of “mental munchies.” There are some recurring categories: Nitwitticisms, Favorite Lame Jokes, Partly Baked Ideas (PBI) and Famous Bad Calls to name some. But, in the end, Brain Snacks is exactly what Karl says it is: “Fast Food for Your Mind.”

At 235 pages, with the Credits and Introduction at the end instead of up front, you would have a hard time finding a better way of entertaining yourself on an as-you-feel-like-it basis and, maybe just maybe, also educating yourself a little bit in the process. At $15.95, it’s a darn good buy.

Delightfully hilarious, yet astute commentary on modern life

I met Dr. Karl Albrecht at a recent conference on book publishing. In one of life's serendipitous moments, I found that we share similar career experiences as a physicist, business owner, military officer, and strategic thinker. What I discovered in Karl is a polymath with an extraordinary range of interests. His insights are steeped in a refined, often irreverent, sense of humor - no one is spared his critical eye, shrewd mind, and rapier wit.

Looking for a light read while flying overseas, I brought a copy of Brain Snacks that Karl had given me. It features a potpourri of snarky humor in the best British tradition of The Economist and Monty Python. And Karl delivered in spades - the book is liberally sprinkled with pop culture, tongue-in-cheek commentaries, amusing historical notes, and optimistic prognostications. His "snack-sized" bites tickled my ribs so often that the flight attendant asked why I was chuckling!

Yet Brain Snacks is more than simply a relaxing read; at its core it is an astute commentary on modern life. A recipient of Mensa's lifetime achievement award, Karl shares many perceptive observations on people, relationships, technology, and society at large. More importantly, he challenges us to think and use our intelligence, qualities which are in short supply today.

Well-edited, this book is a quality read (mine is full of dog-eared pages and notes). For those wanting to slap their knee while acquiring sage pearls of wisdom on how to succeed, this is the right book for you.

A great read filled with great thoughts

Great book. Absolutely great. Good for that quick, but deeply thoughtful, read. Karl Albrecht has a lot to ponder and write about on a wide range of topics: everything from self-help advice (which I appreciated personally) to what will happen when we colonize the moon (which was both thought provoking and alarming). The book is structured into bite size segments that allow you to keep reading, skip around, or put the book down to ponder what you have just read. Perhaps the funniest part is the fact that the forward is at the end of the book ... largely to prove how lame most author forwards are. If you like to think about philosophy, science, topical issues, and divert your attention to sheer amusing nonsense, get this one. It will make you laugh, make you cry, and make you think.

Just needed a tiny bit more...

It's was a very imaginative and inventive story and I really really liked it but i feel both myself and the story Needed more..
Not a lot but just a tiny bit more fire it to be a complete HEA.
I mean that was different for the heroine to end up with soo much power in their relationship and he was soo very sweet I adored it but they've bonded!!!! Yay!! Great right?!?!?!? But now what? Does she just stay and get a job and take care of her Mom and then eventually move to where he is? While he just makes nightly visits? Their bonded now but it's the weirdest kinda one way bond I've ever heard of,he's totally bonded to her mind body and soul and she's what? Does he move in with her? Does her and her Mom move off to where ever he is? Honestly just those things bug me , feels almost like a happy for now with ( they both love each other deeply) the bond seeming complete but kinda lopsided where he's a 110% bonded to her in ways she's not bonded to him and with book/story ending the moment their bond is sealed we have No clue where they go from here.. Are they Married? Mated? Engaged? What ? Soo even thou I really enjoyed the story between their lopsided bond and with No clear clues where their lives or relationship is headed the story REALLY NEEDED A FEW MORE LINES AND OR PAGES to be really great as it is it felt like it stopped right before it REALLY ended...
But it was definitely worth my time and my money ;)

I simply can't put it down

Yet another short story of the author Nellie C Lind. And once more I so love the story. I simply can't put it down. I do recommend the book. The only negative thing is that it is too short. I so want to read more and after the last page I feel I have not had enough. Will it come more some day? Let's hope so.
